Where do I start to effectively plan for a perfomance or competition piece as an aerial artist or SW Club worker?
To plan effectively for a performance piece, start by defining your goals and the entertainment level you want to convey. Next, create a detailed timeline that outlines each phase of your preparation, from brainstorming ideas to rehearsals. Consider your audience and tailor your content to engage them. Finally, gather feedback during practice runs to refine your performance and ensure it resonates well.
Typically, it will take 10-14 weeks to properly train for an event! This is going to include building your routine entirely starting with the concept, music choices, costume budget, training budget and discovering which category and level is for you! All competition events can vary within these components so it's a good idea to research as much as you can prior to committing.
Some of the events will require you to submit a video as part of their submission process in order to move forward with the event. In this case, that submission video is to give the judges a feel for your style and if that is going to be a good match for their competition concept as some will be themed. The video generally does not need to follow that theme. However, the write up you send with it, will need to encompass your concept in detail for review in order to be considered. Additionally, most of the time, there will be a submission fee so you will also want to budget for that cost.
If you are a SW or Club worker, this can still apply to you because stage time is the time for you to make tips and providing a routine or string of movements you execute well will help you out to making sure that you set yourself apart as well as providing an entertaining show for the audience in the crowd. Additionally, these moves can also be incorporated into classic lap dance settings or private room settings. Having a set of revolving sequences can help to take the guesswork out of how to continue to stay training and improving your skills as the sequences you have in your wheelhouse can also grow with you!
Can I use the same routine for a calendar year or do I always have to do something new for each event?
YES! ABSOLUTELY! These are the answers!!!
You CAN use one routine concept for one year, or many years! There is no limit or rule on how many times you utilize a piece for shows, competitions or for the club setting. The interesting thing is, you can grow that routine as you are growing in your aerial journey.
Some professionals have a log of routines and choreography as they evolve in their journey and keep those around for their performances. You can also do the same thing!
What is the CMC Performance Team?
Not only to we support performers on an individual basis. We also have a formal CMC Performance Team that will train together, travel and experience an organized team dynamic that has been originally created and curated by Coach Jill Atkinson and run successfully in other local studio settings.
This will include learning how to build a routine from start to finish in the training space but also on paper! There are going to be many attributes to learn such as how to build concept, picking the perfect costume pieces and finding the song that is going to portray your movement and message on a stage.
Last but not least, you will have a wonderful opportunity to meet some amazing humans and grow organic relationships with your fellow pole friends to build lasting long-term friendships. Learning how good sportsmanship also plays a part in the team dynamic which assists with building a solid team structure!
